Position Opening: SHELTER ADVOCATE
Variable Part-time – Overnights and Weekends
Become part of a vibrant team committed to the empowerment of those affected by domestic violence and advocating for social change through support, education, and outreach. DAIS is seeking Shelter Advocates to join our growing team. The Shelter Advocate is responsible for providing support and advocacy to victims of domestic violence and their children in the DAIS emergency shelter, including assisting shelter residents with daily living needs and providing general support and shelter coverage. The Shelter Advocate also documents services provided to clients through the client records database, prepares rooms for new residents, conducts house checks, and attends supervision and team meetings. The Shelter Advocate is an awake position. Available shifts currently include weekends and overnights, and some holidays to ensure adequate coverage of the shelter program.
A successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and will have a minimum of two years of experience working with trauma survivors. In addition, experience in a residential facility setting is strongly preferred, experience in crisis intervention, excellent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, knowledge of domestic violence issues and bilingual abilities are preferred.
